Why We Give
While still in the depths of our depravity, God gave us the only gift that could assure our eternity with Him; His Son. We give, because He gave. Unselfishly. In totality.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
The helpless, the homeless, the downtrodden, and those less fortunate than us provide us the opportunity to express our gratitude to God by helping them. We live in a fallen and broken world, that will one day be restored. Until then, we have the responsibility to help those in need.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (James 1:27)
We give because it is a demonstration of our love for Jesus.
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.” (Matthew 25:35-36)
